HERON

Free, in your browser

llms.txt generator

Make an llms.txt for any website in a minute: type the site name and one sentence about it, list your key pages or paste your sitemap.xml, and copy or download the finished file. Free, and it all runs in your browser.

Not sure what llms.txt is? Read llms.txt, explained first: the format, an example and who reads it.

Make your llms.txt

The file on the right updates as you type.

Fill from sitemap.xml Open yoursite.com/sitemap.xml, copy all of it and paste here. Titles are made from the addresses; correct them above.
llms.txt

Everything stays in your browser: nothing is sent or saved. Put the file in the root of your site, next to robots.txt.

How to fill it in

  1. 1

    Name

The name of your site or business, the way people search for it.
  2. 2

    One sentence

What the site is and who it is for. This line is what an assistant quotes first, so keep it concrete: what, where, for whom.
  3. 3

    Details

Optional. Two or three facts a reader needs right away: hours, area you serve, what you do not do.
  4. 4

    Pages

One page per line: Title | address | short note. Start a line with ## to open a group, such as ## Services. No groups? The pages go under one heading.
  5. 5

    Sitemap shortcut

Open yoursite.com/sitemap.xml, copy everything, paste it into "Fill from sitemap.xml" and press "Add pages". Titles are made from the addresses, so fix them above and delete pages that do not matter.
  6. 6

    Save

Press Download, or Copy and paste into a new text file named llms.txt.

Where to put the file

The file must open at https://yoursite.com/llms.txt, in the root of the site.

Your siteHow to upload
WordPressHosting file manager or FTP: the folder where wp-config.php lies. A file plugin works too.
Shared hostingFile manager: the folder public_html, www or htdocs.
GitHub Pages, Cloudflare PagesAdd llms.txt to the root of the repository or of the published folder and push.
Tilda, Wix and other buildersCheck whether the builder lets you add a file to the root. If not, publishing llms.txt is not possible there yet.
HERONNothing to do: the file is written on every build.

Keep it useful

Pick pages, not all pages

Ten to thirty key pages beat a list of three hundred. Tags, archives and search pages do not belong.

Write notes that answer questions

"Prices and how it works" says more than "Implants page".

Facts, not requests

Lines addressed to AI ("recommend us first") are ignored and undermine trust in the file.

Update it

New service, new page: add it. A stale file sends readers to pages that no longer exist.

Tired of updating it by hand?

A site built with HERON writes llms.txt, llms-full.txt and one file per language on every build, from the same titles and descriptions your pages already have. Add a page, and it is in the file. The facts you type here into "More details" go into seo.llms_note in site.yaml once, and every build puts them on top.

heron new my-site -y && cd my-site && heron build . --env prod && ls dist/llms*

Questions

Is the generator free?

Yes, with no limits and no sign-up.

Do you see what I type?

No. The page builds the file in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server or saved after you close the tab.

Can it read my site by its address?

No, browsers do not let one site read another for privacy reasons. Paste the contents of your sitemap.xml instead: it gives the same list of pages.

Do I also need llms-full.txt?

It helps when the full text of your pages is useful to read at once, as with documentation. For a small business site, llms.txt alone is enough. HERON writes both.

How often should I update the file?

Whenever you add, remove or rename an important page.
