HERON

Your agent fills the content, the design stays yours

HERON for AI agents

An AI agent can fill your HERON site with content: write the pages, translate them and fill the search settings, by your prompt and within clear limits. It works in the text files of your site, does not touch the design or the structure, and checks its own work with the same build that publishes the site.

Pick a task below, copy it into your agent and replace the text in brackets. The pages for each tool explain the setup step by step.

What an agent does for you

A HERON site is a folder of text files. HERON created the structure, the theme draws it. An agent works inside that structure, the way a careful editor would.

What an agent does not touch

The HERON skill gives a content agent a short list of folders it may write to: content/, media/ and data/. Everything else is closed to it.

The theme

theme/ stays as it is: templates, styles, blocks. A new look is a separate task for a designer, see Claude Design.

The structure

Page types, the menu, languages and the domain in site.yaml change only when you ask for it.

Scripts and publishing

scripts/ and .github/ stay closed. Publishing is a separate role, see Codex.

HERON itself

If something is missing in HERON, the agent writes it down for you and does not work around it.

Copy a task

Run the agent in your site folder. Each task names the work and the check that proves it is done.

Add the HERON skills

A skill is a short instruction an agent loads when the task needs it. It tells the agent how a HERON site works and where it may write.

Who does what

A site is a structure, a design, pages and a publication. Each part is a separate role with its own limits. One agent can take several roles in turn, but only when you give them.

Questions

Can the agent break my design?

A content agent does not write to theme/: the skill closes that folder. The look of the site changes only when you give the designer role a task.

How do I know the agent did a good job?

Run heron build . --env prod --strict. It stops on every problem and names the file and the line: an empty description, a broken link, a page without a translation. Then open the site on localhost:8000 and read the pages.

Will the agent invent facts about my business?

The rules forbid it. Phones, prices, addresses and names come from you; when they are missing, the field stays empty and the agent lists what it needs.

Does the agent need to read the HERON source code?

No. Everything a site may and may not do is in the specifications. If they and the build disagree, the agent reports it as a bug in HERON.
